Te Kaimiromiro host Ngāneko speaks with kaumatua Peter Moeahu about the return of Mangatī E whenua to Puketapu Hapū
The original whenua was confiscated by the Crown in 1848.
In 1968, it was taken under the Public Works Act by the Taranaki County Council for sewage works and oxidation ponds.
In the 1980s the whenua ceased to be used for its intended purposes.
Last week, Peter attended a New Plymouth District Council hui to formally request the return of the whenua to the hapū.
